NASDAQ 100
The Nasdaq 100 is a stock index of America, reflecting the evolution of the 100 companies with the highest market capitalization listed on the Nasdaq electronic market. Telecommunications, retail to wholesale and retail, hardware and software companies and biotechnology, provided they are part of the Nasdaq Stock Market are included in this sector. They can be part of this index, in addition to American companies, international companies also. The main feature of the Nasdaq 100, unlike other stock indexes is that does not include financial securities as investment companies. The index composition is reviewed annually, taking the closing price obtained in October, and thereafter, in December the changes will become effective and are advertised to be held on the third Friday of this month. The weighting or weight that each value in the index is made by market capitalization. All securities included in the index have a minimum market capitalization of $ 500 million. Among the companies that form part of this index, there are some such as Amazon, Apple Computer, Biomet, Dell, Ebay, Patterson Companies, Starbucks and Yahoo. This index can serve as benchmarks for financial products such as index funds, certificates, derivatives and Exchange Traded Funds (ETF s).
